NBG Factors Founding Member of the Hellenic Factors Association
On 5/11/2009 the Hellenic Factors Association was established in Athens with the signing of its statutes by ten founding members. Ethniki Factors S.A. is among founding members and is represented in its Board of Directors (for further information: http://www.hellenicfactors.gr/ ).
National Bank launches a Factoring Company
National Bank of Greece has launched a new company to carry out its factoring business: Ethniki Factors SA, a wholly owned NBG subsidiary staffed with a first-class team of experts whose task will be to provide a comprehensive package of factoring services.
Aware of the needs of Greek firms and in response to the ever-growing requirements of its business clientele, NBG is investing in its factoring business, as it sees strong potential for growth in the Greek factoring market in the years ahead. When comparing factoring statistics in various EU peer economies (for instance, factoring turnover in Ireland and Portugal in 2007 totalled €23 billion and €16 billion respectively, while in Greece it was just €10 billion in 2008), the Greek factoring market can be seen to present substantial growth margins.
The launch of Ethniki Factors reflects NBG management’s strategic decision to grow the Group’s factoring business in Greece and abroad. The Group is already pursuing targeted expansion of the factoring services it provides in other countries where it is active, in line with the prevailing economic climate and specific profile of each market. For instance, Finansbank in Turkey has nearly completed preparations for setting up a factoring company, adjusted to the local regulatory framework, while the launch of factoring operations is also scheduled by the Group’s subsidiaries in Bulgaria and Romania.
The management of NBG and its affiliates view factoring as a cutting edge financial product that meets the needs of firms in many sectors of the economy. Factoring is enabling firms to enhance their cash flow during the current global financial turmoil, while it should continue to be a popular funding tool and lever for growth in the post-crisis era.
